Counselling

How can counselling help?

Life can be overwhelming at times—whether it’s challenges at work, in relationships, during major life transitions, or navigating the impacts of trauma. Counselling offers a supportive, non-judgmental space to explore these issues and develop practical strategies that enhance your emotional wellbeing and daily functioning.

With a background in social work and training in evidence-based therapies such as Narrative Therapy, ACT, Solution-Focused Therapy and Emotion-focused CBT, Dobie works collaboratively with clients to unpack the stories that shape their experiences and move toward meaningful change.

Is Counselling Right for Me?

Counselling may support you in navigating the effects of a single traumatic event—such as a car accident, natural disaster, crime, or medical trauma. Signs of trauma can include flashbacks, sleep difficulties, irritability, emotional numbness, or hypervigilance.

For individuals affected by long-standing or complex trauma—such as childhood abuse, domestic violence, displacement, or refugee experiences—longer-term psychotherapy may be more appropriate. This allows for a safe and gradual exploration of deeper relational wounds and supports healing over time.

Counselling is typically short- to medium-term (6–25 sessions), and is always tailored to your goals, needs, and pace. The initial session focuses on getting to know each other, understanding your concerns, and conducting an initial assessment. This helps identify key areas to focus on and collaboratively develop a plan moving forward.
