Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a different question, feel free to contact TiF.
What can I expect when I meet Dobie? When you meet Dobie, you’ll be welcomed into a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental space. As an accredited social worker, Dobie may begin with a psychosocial assessment to understand your background, strengths, and challenges. This helps identify key issues to focus on together. Using professional judgement and evidence-based approaches, Dobie will work with you to develop a personalised treatment plan. The process is collaborative and paced according to your needs. Counselling with Dobie also considers the broader social, cultural, and structural factors that shape your life, ensuring support that is both person-centred and holistic.
What makes Dobie different from psychologists and counsellors? In Australia, mental health professionals include psychologists, counsellors, social workers, and psychotherapists. As a social worker, my unique approach is to: - Combine psychotherapy techniques with social work methods - Consider the individual, family, community, and social resources as a whole - Work from a trauma-informed and recovery-oriented foundation. - Support clients in addressing psychological distress while also connecting them with the external resources they need.
Where is TiF Counselling and Social Work Services located? TiF Counselling and Social Work Services offers flexible options to suit your needs, including in-person and online Telehealth counselling. For NDIS participants, we also provide home visit if appropriate. Our primary in-person counselling space is located at Brompton SA 5007. Additional locations may be arranged at accessible venues across Adelaide, including the CBD, eastern, north-eastern, northern, and western suburbs. At TiF, we prioritise your privacy and the quality of the therapeutic environment. Whether we meet in our counselling room, a community venue, or your preferred location, we are committed to providing a safe, comfortable, and respectful space for your support journey.
Are your individual counselling services covered by Medicare or private health insurance? TiF’s counselling and social work services are not currently covered by Medicare. Some private health insurance providers may offer rebates if you have "extras" cover—please check with your insurer for details. Our fees are similar to what many clients pay out-of-pocket after a psychologist's Medicare rebate. We are working on offering private health rebates in the future. In the meantime, we aim to keep our fees as low and accessible as possible.
What is your cancellation policy? To ensure fair access and respect for everyone’s time: Cancellations or rescheduling must be made at least 48 hours in advance of your appointment. Late cancellations (less than 48 hours' notice) may incur a fee of 80% of the session cost or result in the forfeiture of the full fee, depending on circumstances. Appointments can be cancelled or rescheduled via the online booking system or by emailing hello@treesinforest.com.au. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Are there any forms for me to sign before I begin therapy? Yes. Before we begin, all clients are required to complete a Client Consent Form and an Intake Form. These documents outline your rights, responsibilities, and key information about the counselling process to ensure informed and collaborative engagement. For NDIS participants, in addition to the consent and intake forms, an initial assessment will be conducted to better understand your needs. Based on your NDIS plan and goals, a Service Agreement will then be provided to formalise the commencement of Capacity Building services.
How many sessions do clients usually have? The number of sessions varies depending on individual needs, goals, and circumstances — such as the nature of your concerns, financial considerations, and time availability. Now I only offer short-term focused support. For NDIS participants, the duration and scope of support will be outlined in a Service Agreement tailored to your plan and goals.
Do I need a referral for these services? No referral is required. You are welcome to book a private consultation directly without needing a referral from a GP or other professional.
